EDS European Data Service | Labour Force Survey (LFS): Important Note

Important note: Please read before ordering Labour Force Survey data

When ordering Labour Force Survey data using the available order forms, please try to make sure that you do not select too many variable breakdowns within one and the same data table (eg. breakdown by age, sex, marital status, educational attainment, nationality, professional status, and economic activity) as this often leads to a very large amount of data and a small number of cases per category thus decreasing the manageability and above all reliability of the sample.

Not including the variables year and country, it is advisable as a general rule to select no more than five variable breakdowns per data set. If however you are interested in a larger number of breakdowns, we recommend ordering more than one data set by filling in several order forms. In the example above this could mean for exampling ordering two separate data sets both broken down by year, country, age, sex and marital status, table 1 then also broken down by nationality and educational attainment, table 2 also broken down by professional status and economic activity. Obviously the specifications of your order will depend on which indicator combinations you are interested in.

The Labour Force Survey order forms encompass a large proportion of the variables included in the Labour Force Survey. Please consult the publication EU Labour Force Survey database User Guide for a comprehensive list of the LFS variables. If you are interested in ordering data on indicators which are not mentioned on any of these forms, please contact us.
