The European Union (EU) is the world's fourth largest producer of fish and aquaculture. Within the EU, Spain, Denmark and the United Kingdom were the leading producing countries in 2009. The total production in the European Union declined slightly over the last years. Globally however total production increased during the same period. The global increase is due to a sharp increase in aquaculture production whereas the amount of fishery worldwide is declining as well. |
