Energy dependency, gas imports and heat degree days
Energy and energy dependency were high on the political agenda last winter, particularly due to the dispute between the Russian Federation and Ukraine over natural gas supplies, prices, and debts.
The fact that a large proportion of European gas imports are transported through Ukraine meant that many European states were affected by the dispute.
As the colder season is slowly approaching, the EDS European Data Service would like to present a range of up-to-date statistics and publications on energy, energy dependency, gas imports and heat degree
days.

Energy dependency in %: Energy dependency shows the extent to which an economy relies upon imports in order to meet its energy needs. The indicator is calculated as net imports divided by the sum of gross inland energy consumption plus
bunkers.
