Topic Highlights:
5 years EU enlargement
It is now five years since the largest single enlargement of the European Union. 10 new Member States joined the EU in May 2004.
To mark this date and in light of the June 2009 European elections, the EDS European Data Service looks back over the last five years to analyse the development these states have undergone since joining the Union.
Numerous statistical indicators demonstrate the progress that has been made and also highlight where continued effort is needed.
